SCORING RULES

Scoring an Enduro is very simple if you just understand the basic rules:

  1. A rider loses 1 point for each minute he is late to a check. A rider loses 2 points for the first minute and 5points for each additional minute he is early to a check.

  2. Example 1:

Rider #21D arrives at Check #1

21 marked on card - 0 points lost
22 marked on card - 1 point lost
20 marked on card - 2 points lost
    19 marked on card - 7 (2 + 5) points lost
    Example 2:

Rider #1D arrives at Check #1

0 marked on card - 2 points lost (1 minute early)
    -1 marked on card - 7 (2 + 5)points lost (two minutes early)

  3. The Finish (last check) is almost always a Known Control. A rider may arrive up to 15 minutes early at a Known Control and still be scored a 0 or lose no points. If he is over 15 minutes early, he is disqualified.

  4. Tiebreakers are a little more complicated but still simple if you convert seconds to points. A rider should arrive exactly in the middle of his minute; that is, exactly 30 seconds late.

  5. Example:

Rider #21D arrives at Check #2

    21:30 marked on card - Perfect 0
21:01 marked on card - 29 points lost
21:40 marked on card -10 points lost
24:26 marked on card = 176 points lost (see calculation below)

    21:30   22:30   23:30   24:26
    0 + 60 + 60 + 56 = 176 points lost
  6. Rules on how Tie-Breakers are combined vary from year to year but the basic system of points lost remains the same.
